.XXX is a new sponsored top-level domain (sTLD), specifically designed for the benefit of the global online adult entertainment industry. In March 2011, ICANN authorized .XXX as a top-level domain name and granted ICM Registry final approval to operate the domain extension.
All members of the Adult Sponsored Community can register resolving (active) .XXX domain names (validation of membership required). Registrants who want to secure their names may register .XXX domains defensively (domains will not resolve).
Non-members of the Adult Sponsored Community can apply for non-resolving .XXX domain names in order to protect their intellectual property for personal domain names, company domain names, product domain names, etc. (defensive registration).
With the Modify command you can change the state of a .XXX domain: non-resolving domains can be transferred into active domains and active domains can be changed retroactively in a defensive registration.
